Latest Press Release: Trinity College Dublin Africa Day Conference Assesses Global Progress Towards Gender Equality.

The Trinity International Development Initiative (TIDI), with the support of the African Embassies accredited to the Republic of Ireland are delighted to collaborate on this conference to mark Africa Day 2015.  The African Union marks 2015 as the ‘Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development Towards Africa’s Agenda 2063’, as well as the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform, facilitated by UN Women, which supports gender equality globally.  This conference will look at key issues in gender; on how movements towards equality for women and girls has progressed globally, what the barriers are to female empowerment and gender equality and how can they be overcome and what opportunities exist in 2015 to progress the gender equality platform, given the activities happening this year.  This conference will be addressed by the following distinguished speakers:

  • Lilian O. Ajayi, Executive Director/Founder of Global Connections For Women Foundation (GC4W) and Ambassador of Goodwill to the State of Arkansas – ‘The Status of Women and Girls in Africa and the Rest of the World’;
  • Faiza Jama Mohamed, Director, Equality Now – ‘The Africa We Want – The Perspective of the African Women’;
  • Minna Salami, Member of Duke University’s Corporate Educator Network & The Guardian Africa Network & founder of Ms. Afropolitan – ‘“Oyalogy” – A poetic approach to African feminism

“The year 2015 marks the 3rd year anniversary of the Global Connections for Foundation – which has grown into one of the leading international non-profits of the millennium in the areas of gender equality and women empowerment. Today, new commitments to reverse the trend of gender inequality extends beyond world leaders — as private individuals, not-for-profit entities, and corporations have also ignited their global commitment to women empowerment—and with promising results and epic resolutions. My hope is that my presentation on Africa Day inspire members of the audience in Ireland to “Lean In” and join the global efforts of reversing the trend of Gender Inequality in their country and the rest of the world” said Lilian O. Ajayi, Founder and Executive Director of the Global Connections for Women Foundation (GC4W).

The Global Connections for Women Foundation (GC4W) is excited to play a critical part in the 2015 Africa Day event at Trinity College Dublin TIDI – University of Dublin, Ireland. I feel truly honored to be invited to speak on the Status of Women and Girls in Africa and the Rest of the World at such a momentous occasion. The year 2015 also marks a critical junction for all nations – as the United Nations Millennium Development Goals concludes, while the Sustainable Development Goals are realized with a more Gender Focused Agenda – to further ensure that gender equality and women empowerment programs remain at the forefront of post-2015 global development initiatives.
