Unite to End Violence Against Women - 16days Campaign_GC4W

We invite you to join the rest of the world in painting your neighborhood ORANGE from 25 November the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December – Human Rights Day for a 16 Days of Activism for the time is now to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world.

One in three women are exposed to some form of violence throughout their life. Such statistics are a leading factor in showcasing how much still needs to be done. UN Women partnered with UN United to End Violence Against Women to not only create viable options and outlets for women to escape such environments, but did so in conjunction with their #heforshe campaign. This was done as a way to ensure a greater impact – where both genders can mutually play a role in setting up a concrete foundation for achieving both gender equality and end violence against women. According to the Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, “this isn’t a women’s issue, this is an issue for humanity.”

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is focused on the crucial and problematic nature of violence against women. Whether it is verbal, physical, or sexual, the fact remains that too many women are exposed to environments that are not only threatening to their life, but are also very difficult to remove themselves from. The #16days campaign was enacted by UN Women to bring a stronger response in advocating the action aspect of achieving change.
