College is a crazy and confusing time for everyone. It’s the first time you’re on your own, doing your own thing. It’s a time to let loose a little and try new things. There is a lot of self-discovery during your time away at school. Here are a few quotes to help guide you through those confusing times:

1. “Eighty percent of success is showing up”.

–Woody Allen

Go to class. Trust me, I know it’s hard. But even on the days where your bed is begging you not to go, just remember by showing up, you’ve already completed the hardest part.

2. “The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket”.

– Will Rogers

When it comes to spending money in college you should always ask, “do I really need that?”. When you’re running low on detergent and you have the extra cash that you didn’t spend on that sweater at Forever 21 you’ll be thankful.

3. “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!”

-Audrey Hepburn

You know that all nighter you have to pull to pass that exam? It is possible. You do what you got to do to pass. So hit up the library, and remember if you work hard enough anything is possible.

4. “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”.

–John Lennon

Not everything you do needs to be planned out. This is the time to live a little more freely and spontaneously. If you’re too busy planning your every move, you just might miss something life changing. If you and your friends decide that they want to go to a cool bar in the city instead of going to the same place you always go to every Friday night, go with them! Live in the moment and just go with the flow.

5.  “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions”.

–Stephen Covey

You make a lot of decisions in college. What do I want to major in? What classes do I want to take? Should I go out on a Thursday night when I have class the next morning? What ever you decide to do, just know that there are consequences for every decision that you make. Make sure you’re prepared for them.

6.  “If the wind will not serve, take to the oars”.

–Latin Proverb

Sometimes you have to make things happen in life yourself. Life can’t always cater to our needs the way we want them to. So the next time you have to work a late shift with a test the next day, improvise. Bring your books with you so that you can study while on your break, or make flash cards that you can keep in your pocket for any down time that you get.

7. “There is no royal road to anything. One thing at a time, all things in succession. That which grows fast, withers as rapidly. That which grows slowly, endures”.

– Josiah Gilbert Hollan

Those general Ed classes are annoying, but do your best to get them out of the way early. And who knows, maybe you’ll really enjoy a couple. You also might find that you really learned something valuable. You could even discover that you want to change what you’re majoring in.

8. “Friendship… is not something you learn in school. But if you havent learned the meaning of friendship, you really havent learned anything”.

-Muhammad Ali

You meet friends for life in college. This often includes the girls you live with. Your roommates are the girls that you tend to become the most comfortable with. They are the girls who will walk you home after a night out and drunkenly snack on scoops and quaso with you. They’re the people that will order Dominoes at two in the morning because honestly who wouldn’t want cheesy bread at 2 am?

9. “Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it”.

–Charles Swindoll

You choose how you react to what life deals you. You can either let it knock you down, or you can choose to brush it off and learn from it. The next time you get a bad grade on an assignment that you worked endlessly on in the library or do poorly on an exam, find out what you could have done better and move on. You choose what makes or breaks you.

10. “Positive anything is better than negative nothing”.

-Elbert Hubbard

Always have a positive attitude with everything that you do. When you’re positive about everything, you become a more likable and more fun to be around person. Your professors will enjoy having you in their classes and everything will seem a little bit easier. Just look on the bright side of life!
