Blake Lively just wants her kids to be proud of her.

During a recent interview with Forbes published on May 17, Lively opened up about the effect motherhood has had on her self-image and the kinds of projects she aligns herself with. The Gossip Girl star has three daughters—seven-year-old James, five-year-old Inez, and two-year-old Betty—with her husbandRyan Reynolds.

“I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin,” Lively told Forbes. “I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident—not to say that there aren’t a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled.”

That confidence has also impacted Lively’s style and career pursuits. “Family is at the root of everything that I do, and it’s also at the root of everything that I create,” Lively said of her nonalcoholic premium mixer line, Betty Buzz. “So, whenever I create something, I create something with family in mind, because that’s just how I live.”

She added, “That also goes into the types of films I want to be a part of. I want to be in films, I want to make films, I want to author films that I would be proud for my children to see. Even the gowns I wear — I just want my kids to be proud.”

Blake Lively’s next film project is the highly anticipated sequel to A Simple Favor (2018). The campy thriller originally followed Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick), a widowed mommy vBlogger, as she strikes up a friendship with the mysterious and dangerous Emily Nelson (Lively). Kendrick and Lively are both set to reprise their roles.

Ryan Reynolds recently told David Letterman that Lively “runs the show” when it comes to their family of five. “I would kind of really phone things in if it wasn’t for her,” he said. “She has higher standards.”
