A GC4W Twitter Chat on Women in Politics: How We Rise and Win. On Monday, November, 5th, 2018 at 1:00 PM EST, the Global Connections for Women Foundation (GC4W) invites leading professional women to speak with authority on the topic of Women in Politics.

“When women run for office they win at the same rates as men” ~SheShouldRun.org

With the outstanding number of women running for office this November, we feel now is the perfect time to educate the public on why it is so important that these women are in office. There are 184 female candidates who are not incumbents, who will be on the November ballot for the United States Midterm Elections. Many of the women who will be on these ballots have the potential to achieve historic firsts if elected. This is the first time in a long time that such an impressive number of women have run for office and we want to bring attention to this incredible feat. There are additional reasons to believe that organizations like She Should Run and Emily’s List, as well as individuals like Jehmu Greene, Rebecca Chen, Carrie Sheffield, and Lynn Cooper, gives potential female candidates more reasons to run for office.

“For me, a better democracy is a democracy where women do not only have the right to vote and to elect but to be elected.”Michelle Bachelet, United Nations Human Rights Chief, who served as the First Female of Presidential Chile.  She served from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2018.

A recent report on female candidates suggested that when women run for office they win at the same rates as men. This means that part of the reason why women are underrepresented in politics could mean that they are hesitant to run for office. It is our hope that this twitter chat gives you more reasons to vote, support female candidates, and encourage more women to run for office, not only on national platforms but on local platforms as well.

We believe that the time is now for a much-needed dialogue on Women in Politics future and present, especially with record high numbers of women running in the US midterm elections, coupled with the growth in women in elected political positions worldwide. We are thrilled to have these leading women endeavor in a powerful conversation on Election Day about how women can rise and win in politics” ~ Lilian Ajayi-Ore, Founder / CEO Global Connections for Women Foundation.
