“A truly equal world would be one where women ran half our countries and companies and men ran half our homes.” ~ Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook

Summary: As COO of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg’s high-profile C-suite position already makes her an inspiration for aspiring women in tech – but even more importantly, Sandberg stands out as an activist, as she is the founder of the Lean In Foundation which helps women achieve their career goals and work toward a more equitable society. I was personally inspired after reading Sandberg’s bestselling book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, and still incorporate Sandberg’s wise advice in my professional pursuits. Through her work as a female executive at a tech giant and as a thought-leader in feminism in a business context, Sheryl Sandberg plays a crucial role in nurturing future female leaders and breaking down social barriers that typically hinder female voices from reaching positions of power.

Q: What progress do you hope to see women achieve and what will be be the single biggest factor in propelling that progress? on usatoday.com

A: My goal is very clear, which is that women run half our companies and countries and men run half our homes. As much as I wish that could happen in four years, I don’t think that’s a likely time period. But I think it can happen sooner than we think. Part of it is having that aspiration and that goal. I think we too often suffer from the tyranny of low expectations.
