The Workshop at Macy’s is free and drives for the success of its students. If you or someone you know meets the eligibility requirements, you can apply here. The deadline for the April 2015 workshop is February 1st, 2015.

For over a century and a half Macy’s has gleamed as a household retail name. Finding its roots in NYC, Macy’s has since spread throughout North America, becoming one of the most successful retail entities within the continent. The enterprise has always made their customers a main priority and over the years has focused on allowing customers to play a larger role in dictating the company’s direction.

The Workshop at Macy’s is a noteworthy program that provides minorities and women owned retail businesses – a supportive boost through a rigorous training program.  The program was created to help these businesses in many ways. The workshop is “an exclusive retail vendor development program designed to give select high potential minority and/or women business owners the tools to better success and sustain growth in the retail industry.”

In addition with aiding growth, some of the most promising of these blossoming businesses are given even further opportunities. Graduates from the workshop have been able to launch their personal lines within Macy’s stores. Alumni Alex Woo used the Workshop at Macy’s, as more than an informative session, her jewelry business is now available at some of New York’s biggest retailers, including Macy’s.

The promising results from the workshop give smaller retailers an amazing opportunity to engage in a different spectrum of business. Plus the most appealing aspect of the program is the targeted audience; the importance of catering to the diverse shoppers is a key component of why it’s proven such a level of success. “Having a supplier base that reflects our diverse customer base gives us a tremendous competitive advantage… creating a better, more personalized shopping experience and driving bottom–line business results for Macy’s and for our vendors.”
